Management Team

Mo Klefeker

Served as the President and CEO of Southwest Generation from 2008 through 2014. The company’s portfolio consisted of approximately (1,000 MW) of natural gas fired facilities located in California, New Mexico, California and Colorado with power purchase agreements providing electric capacity and energy to load serving utilities.

Prior, worked for Black Hills Corporation as the Corporate Development and Strategic Planning Officer from 2004 to 2008. Also served as Senior Vice President of our subsidiary, Black Hills Generation, Inc. from September 2002 to March 2004 and as Vice President of Corporate Development for Black Hills Energy Capital, Inc. from July 2000 to September 2002. Developed contracted natural gas fired power plants (1110 MW) in Nevada, Colorado and New Mexico with electric utilities.

Joined Indeck Capital, Inc. in 1995 as the Asset Manager for the Indeck North American Power Fund Power Fund and later served as Vice President of Business Development for Indeck Capital until 2000. Managed (150 MW) gas fired generating plants that utilized the waste heat for combined electric power and steam production. Developed (120 MW) of contracted gas fired peaking capacity in Colorado.

Began career in the electric industry with Northern Indiana Public Service Company from 1981 until 1995. Held management positions in electric production for operations, engineering and environmental compliance. Also worked as a financial analyst in the corporate and finance area of the company.

Educational background includes a B.S. degree from Purdue University and a M.B.A. from the University of Notre Dame.

Joseph Powell

Joseph Powell
Mr. Powell is Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. In this role, he is responsible for financial reporting and managerial accounting, tax matters, treasury management, human resources and other administrative matters. Mr. Powell was most recently the Company's Vice President and Chief Accounting Officer (CAO) and has been involved with Primary Energy Recycling since its 2005 initial public offering as a direct employee, and under the prior Management Agreement structure. Mr. Powell has a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Indiana University, a Master of Business Administration from J.L. Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University and is a Certified Public Accountant. His previous employment experience includes CFO responsibilities and approximately 17 years in the public accounting environment, including eight years in the audit practice at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP

Katie Vertenten

Katie Verntenten
Ms. Vertenten is the Manager of Finance and has been involved with the business since 2004 in various financial roles. This included a key role in the initial public offering of Primary Energy as well as analysis for acquisitions and financings. She is responsible for the administration of all of Primary Energy's credit facilities. She has been integral in several significant financings including the company's current credit facility. Ms. Vertenten has a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Indiana University (Magna Cum Laude).
